Deep Tissue Massage – No Pain No Gain
Deep Tissue Massage Treatments are most often used in the treatment of chronic muscle tension or injury. When this occurs it often creates adhesions (bands of painful, rigid tissue) in the muscles, tendons and ligaments.
Adhesions can block circulation and cause pain, limited movement and inflammation. While some pain may be experienced during this course of this type of treatment it is very important to express your tolerance to it in order to avoid the treatment going over and above your comfort level. Massage therapists may use fingertips, knuckles, hands, elbows, and forearms during the deep tissue massage and you may be asked to breathe deeply as the massage therapist works on certain tense areas.
Some soreness may remain for a few days after receiving a deep tissue treatment but should resolve itself shortly afterwards.
Some of the conditions that Deep Tissue treatment can help to resolve include:
- Chronic pain
- Lower back pain
- Limited mobility
- Recovery from injuries (e.g. whiplash, falls, sports injury)
- Repetitive strain injury, such as carpal tunnel syndrome
- Postural problems
- Muscle tension in the hamstrings, glutes, IT band, legs, quadriceps,
- Ostearthritis pain
- Sciatica
- Piriformis syndrome
- Tennis elbow
- Fibromyalgia
- Muscle tension or spasm
It is highly recommended that you drink plenty of water before and after a deep tissue massage to help flush the metabolic waste from your system.
